Day Spa Advertising Vs Marketing
You’ve bought your spa and now you are trying to figure out what type of advertising it is you need. The first thing you need to understand is the difference between day spa advertising and day spa marketing. And there is a difference!
There is no point in spending your advertising money on advertising just to spend it. Over 90% of advertising campaigns are actually a failure except for the company you paid your advertising money too, even though the sales reps would have you believe otherwise.
When you first open your new spa you will be like bait for the advertising sales reps that will be all over you. You wouldn’t part with your money to a snake oil salesmen and you shouldn’t part with it to an advertising sales rep unless you know and understand how your company will actually benefit.
There is no benefit to the “feel good” I bought advertising campaign. You need to come up with a marketing campaign and that will address how your advertising money should be spent. First of all you need to know if your advertising campaign is actually working and you can’t do that just by paying and waiting.
A good marketing campaign would target your market, and then run an advertising campaign that could be tracked to see what the percentage of return was. When you can track whether your advertising is really working you can make excellent decisions.
There is a huge difference between marketing and advertising. Marketing requires hands on while advertising requires little more than you to cut the check. Marketing will make you money while advertising will take your money.
How often have you heard someone proudly say “we advertise everywhere so we miss no one.” Have you ever asked them what they spend on advertising – I bet it’s plenty. More importantly have you ever asked them what their return on investment was – I bet they haven’t a clue.
As a new business owner you don’t have a nickel to waste so you want to make sure that the money you are using to bring in new clients is actually doing just that. The better you understand your market, your advertising dollars, how those advertising dollars are working for you the better value you will get for your money.
We’ve only touched on the difference between day spa advertising and day spa marketing, but at least you’re pointing the right way.
